I Write Like

Found a site, courtesy of an authonomite, that analyzes writing and tells you the name of a famous author who writes like you.  Here’s the link:

The part, from somewhere in my fourth chapter, I tried gave me the above: Tolkien. Hmm… I’ve only read the Hobbit partways and that was when I was 12.

Next, I tried the prologue of my book and I got: Arthur C. Clarke.

Next up was the beginning of the first chapter: William Shakespeare

Then I tried to put in way more: Arthur C. Clarke.

Give it a try and let me know how accurate you find it.

  1. Very cool app. Mine was Cory Doctorow. Thanks for sharing it.

  2. I’ll have to try this, thanks. 🙂

  3. I want to read chapter 4!

I tried it out and got Cory Doctorow and Gertrude Stein. I’ve never read anything by Cory Doctorow, but I do hope Stein’s writing sample was not taken from Tender Buttons.

    • Hey Octo! I know, sorry, I’ve been editing the first book and haven’t had much time for more than writing out scenes in my notebooks. Thanks for wanting to read it! Out of all the ones mentioned on here, I’ve only read a bit of Tolkien and Shakespeare (not that I could understand it without the Cliff Notes). I have to read more. I’ll have to give Doctorow and Stein a try. Hope you’re enjoying your winter break 🙂

  4. Wow… it told me I write like HP Lovecraft! Gotta try this again. 🙂

  5. anyone heard of HP Lovecraft… ? I sure haven’t. Figures I’d rank up there with someone obscure and odd. 🙂

  6. George, I put in my little short story, “Christmas Miracle” and it said I write like….Lewis Carroll! OMG I couldn’t believe that. What do you think? You’ve read my stuff…

  7. Margaret Mitchell? Maybe it goes by initials.

  8. Happy New Year George!

I am sharing the Liebster Award with you, you can check it out here.

    🙂 Congratulations!

    • Happy New Year to you too, Jodi! Thanks for the award! I think I got one, but I haven’t completed the requirements for it. I can add them all together, I suppose. I’m really behind on comments too…

  9. Just found this entry and had my writing analyzed. I entered text from five different pieces I’d written. My essay was like Marg. Atwood. My folk tale was likened to Raymond Chandler. My long short story about hippies was compared to Chuck Palahnuik. And my fantasy piece is apparently written in the style of Anne Rice. Outside of Anne Rice, I never read any of these other authors.

    Still sort of fun.

    • Yeah, mine changed authors on different pieces too. I wonder if it has to do more with word choices or with style. Did you use vocabulary that Anne Rice used? Or do you think it had more to do with style?

      • Somehow I think it’s overall style, though I don’t feel it is at all accurate. I’ve never read some of the authors I wrote like, how could I sound like them?

      • I don’t think it means that the writer is copying a style, rather that they share the same style with a well known writer. If they told me I wrote like Anne Rice, I’d be pretty pleased 🙂

  10. These are stunning! Does he sell these successfully in Cuba? I don’t usually care for abstract art, but these are fabulous. One of the other bloggers here has an art business.

    • 🙂 Yes, he sells in Cuba and has shown in other countries, like France & Spain. He has been allowed to leave the island for his shows, too, so he’s quite fortunate. I’m pretty proud of him and he’s a great guy!

Which blogger has an art business?
